I like the line about meeting our pain with compassion. It's easy to be hard on yourself for all the things you may be doing wrong or "not good enough". But if you could look at yourself through another's eyes you'd see that you should show yourself more grace and compassion because you are a human dealing with a tough world and you need it.

Cutting sugar is certainly one thing I need to look at. It's just SO DIFFICULT, especially when healthy options are almost always more expensive. Of course, there's also the taste. Coffee without sugar? Ugh! haha

Oh yes, sugar is one of the HARDEST! I do find that if I "fill up" on good food, I crave sweets less intensely. But it doesn't help that sugar is everywhere and such a part of modern food reality.

Your thoughts about self-compassion are right on the mark

Having had repeated episodes of insomnia myself- a week or longer without sleeping- I remember giving myself lots of grief about it

Hope your article is widely read

It's a hard reflex to unlearn, giving ourselves grief when we're unhappy with our situation. Thanks for the positive feedback! I also hope it's widely read, since what I write is often messages like these, that I wish I'd heard much earlier in my own life!

"I believe the worst suffering is the kind that comes with being at odds with yourself."

I know this feeling so well. It took me a long time to find my right fit. Thanks for this article, Morgan. It's a nice, gentle, snuggle of a read.
