Hi Morgan, I love this post. It’s such an incredible reminder of a kind of deep healing we have access to. I have diagnosed CPTSD and also struggle with different forms of chronic pain and inflammation. Pete Walker in his book talks about reparenting our inner child from a mother’s side: self-compassion and nurturing and then from a father’s side: self defense. I love how you compared this to how you spoke to your own child. What a great picture! And how sweet and kind your words are. Thank you for subscribing to my substack—that opened the door for me to find yours! Love your writing and your message. ❤️

Yes, the precious inner child needs so much nurturing AND protection - thanks for that perspective and reminder! I'm so glad you found me and hope we'll continue to compare notes along the way. Love to you! ❤️

love love love this! Thanks for sharing all the ways having self compassion for yourself and your body has helped - that is so inspiring and uplifting! I'm gonna share this with a friend who deals with (i was going to say 'suffers with' but that just sounded unnecessarily negative - and she may not feel like she's suffering (or at least not all the time!)) a variety of chronic pain autoimmune conditions

This was such a beautiful read. I am a therapist, I utilize somatic modalities and a whole lot of IFS and letter writing (we all love Liz!!). While I love these tools and my clients respond well to them, I have been my toughest client. I have lived with life changing long covid/chronic illness now for 5 years. It took my fun, athletic, care free life by the horns and brought me completely to my knees (more like my back actually). It’s been so hard but everything you mentioned in your piece works! It’s so true that sometimes the work isn’t working so hard and is absolutely about surrender, letting go and allowing our bodies to be as they are. I call my little one, “sweet girl,” she is vulnerable and scared at times but I have gotten really good and loving on her and letting her be there. Thank you for such a beautiful and well thought out piece. 🥰

Thank you so much for sharing that, Amanda. ❤️ It's horrible you're dealing with long COVID and all the ways it's changed your life. But yay, you're tending to your "sweet girl" with all that love and tenderness she so needs! Wishing you healing and strength 💖

Morgan, Thank you for this. It's one thing to provide love, care and support for those who come seeking relief from life's painful "lessons", if you will. It's quite another to learn the lessons ourselves and walk the walk and more importantly talk to ourselves with loving kindness when that isn't quite our inititial mindset. My body reminds me over and over again hey you can have your mindset but you still have to deal withe me as well.

Namaste
